Postage-paid packages can take up to two working days to arrive. If you still haven’t received it after this time, give us a call us on 0870 087 0168 and we’ll send you another one.

Once you’ve traded in your device, we pass it on to a third party so it can be re-used. Handsets are checked, all the data is wiped and most are then sent to developing markets where mobiles phone use is growing rapidly.

Once your device has been successfully traded in, we’ll pay you the value of your device by direct bank transfer. This means the money will reach your account within three working days of us receiving your item. If you’d prefer a cheque, just let us know.

There are two easy ways you can trade in your device with carphone warehouse:

Online. Just enter your device’s details (brand, model or IMEI/serial number) and we’ll tell you what it’s worth. We’ll send you a pre-paid package so you can post your handset to us. Then, as soon as we receive your item, we’ll directly transfer the money into your account within three working days.

In store. You can bring your phone into any carphone warehouse store and we’ll tell you how much it’s worth. We’ll pay you by direct bank transfer, so you can take the amount off any replacement device you buy in store.

Unlike many of the other phone recycling outfits we guarantee to pay the agreed quote (assuming the phone is in the stated condition of course!). If for any reason we believe the phone is in a different condition to specified we can return the phone to you free of charge.

Once you have requested a phone pre-paid mailing package we will mail it to the delivery address you specify, and you simply put the phone into the post and once we receive your phone and ensure it is in the stated condition we will process payment to you on the same day.

As soon as we receive your phone and ensure it is in the stated condition we will process payment to you on the same day. If you have chosen to be paid by bank transfer you will receive this within 3-5 working days.

We can pay you via bank transfer directly into your bank which you will receive in 3-5 working days, or we can send you a cheque if you prefer.

Your existing phones trade-in value could help you buy out your current contract early, letting you upgrade your phone early without any penalties.

As well as working phones we also pay cash for all types of broken phones, including phones that don’t turn on or have moderate damage such as a broken screen or damaged casing. We can recycle for free any phones which have been extensively damaged, such as where the casing is smashed, or the internals are exposed.

We buy all phones and tablets whether or not they were bought from carphone warehouse.

We buy phones from all networks whether or not you bought the phone from carphone warehouse.

We recommend you do a factory reset on the phone before you send it in, and we also back that up by wiping the phone as part of our recycling process.

    1. You confirm that you consent to the carphone warehouse limited(CPW) using your information (including name, address, telephone number, email address, device make/model/IMEI/network) to allow us to process your trade in and contact you and the network in relation to the trade in and unlocking of the device only.

Before providing us with the device, if you have any questions relating to these conditions please contact us via our website at www.Carphonewarehouse.Com or by calling us on 0370 111 6565.

    3. You confirm that you are either the owner of the device or you have obtained express permission from the rightful owner to trade in the device.

    4. The device must not be stolen or listed with us or a third party as stolen. We will check the device with checkmend, from the suppliers of IMMOBILISE as used by UK police forces to trace stolen and missing property. If the device fails any due diligence check we may notify the relevant police authority and we may pass the device and your details to them and the quoted value will not be paid to you.

    5. The device must not have been purchased from CPW within the 30 days prior to trade in.

    6. The quoted device trade in value ('quoted value') will be determined by us or a third party on our behalf based on the make and model of the device.

    8. Data stored on the device that you wish to retain must be saved elsewhere and you must remove any memory card and/ or all data that has been put onto the device prior to trade in. We will not be liable for any damage, loss or erasure of any such data or for any consequences of you not removing your data or memory card, including use or disclosure of such data.

    3. The value can be used to create a trade-in credit note against any purchase you make in store; or

Best 3 smartphones for stock trading in 2019

Best Smartphones for Stock Trading in 2018 and 2019

Smartphones are now an essential tool for anyone who is serious about trading.

They have the ability to keep you in the action so that you’re never more than a few seconds away from the information you need.

But here’s the thing…there are now so many smartphones on the market, it’s a headache choosing the best one for you. And if you’re used to just one brand, it’s even worse.

What if your brand isn’t the best?

We take a look at the best smartphones for stock trading. But first…

    What are we looking for?

Using a smartphone for trading, whether it’s day trading or forex or any other securities-based work, means having certain features and capabilities at your disposal.

We think the most important aspects of a good smartphone in this arena are:

the display. If it’s clear and bright, we want it. Traders need to have something they can look at even in the harshest sunlight of a busy trading day. And they can’t miss a single element of the data they’re looking at battery life. If you’re rushing around trading all day, or if you’re a trader who’s also holding down a full-time job, you need to be able to rely upon a strong battery. The battery has to give you enough power to service trades at key points in the day. It also needs to be able to supply you with key financial data throughout that day screen size. If you’re looking at a small screen, you’ve seriously limited your own potential as a trader. If you’ve got a screen that is small (less than 5 inches, for example), you’re in danger of literally not seeing what needs to be seen speed. We’re fully aware that all smartphones are pretty quick these days. But that doesn’t mean they’re all fast enough. The phones we’ve looked at in this article come up with the goods as regards fast processing

    #1 samsung note 10+

The samsung note series is the flagship line of the south korean technology giant. Ever since the first model, samsung note smartphones attracted a large number of users due to their top specs, a stylus pen and amazing battery life (ok, except the note 7.)

Samsung Note 10 is the Best Phone for Trading in 2019 Due to it

The note series delivers all the features that stock traders love, and the recently unveiled note 10+ is no exception.

Just like its predecessor, the note 10+ is made of durable gorilla glass both on the front and backside.

    Display

The display on the new samsung note 10+ is simply stunning. The note 10+ is equipped with an amazing 6.8 inch quad HD+ AMOLED infinity display with a pixel density of 498 ppi.

There’s also a smaller note 10 (without the “plus” sign) that comes with a 6.3-inch FHD+ AMOLED infinity display. In both cases, you’ll have more than enough real estate to perform even advanced charting on your note 10 smartphone.

The advanced and smart S pen is also a distinguishing feature of the note series and makes a real difference when drawing trendlines, S&R levels or other technical tools on your screen.

    Speed

The note10+ octa-core processor handles any task lightning-fast. You won’t have any issues with speed when using the note 10 or note 10+. All apps, including your broker’s mobile trading platform, are opened in the blink of an eye.

The note 10+ comes standard with up to 512 GB of internal memory and 12 GB of RAM.

    Battery

The battery life of your smartphone is very important if you’re a stock trader. The note 10+ comes with a non-removable 4300 mah battery that can easily outlast the day. The device also comes with the wireless powershare feature, which gives you the power to charge other devices simply by placing them on the back of your phone! You’ll love this feature if you’re using the samsung galaxy watch to follow your trades.

    Specs:

    #2 iphone xs max

The iphone has always been a popular choice when it comes to mobile trading. The new iphone xs max has the largest display ever on an iphone, which makes it an interesting device on our list of top trading smartphones.

iphone xs max is a good phone for forex trading

    Display

The iphone xs max features a 6.5-inch retina display which is slightly smaller than the mammoth display of the new note 10+ but still offers plenty of space for advanced charting. The pixel density is also somewhat smaller and comes in at 458 ppi.

    Speed

Apple’s flagship smartphone is equipped with a super-fast A12 bionic chip that features advanced AI, so don’t expect any lags when using the iphone xs max as your daily driver and trading companion.

The device comes with up to 512 GB of internal memory, just like samsung’s note 10+.

    Battery

The battery life of the iphone xs max lasts up to 1.5 hours longer than iphone X, with continuous internet use of up to 13 hours, video playback of up to 15 hours and audio playback of up to 65 hours (wireless.) while apple doesn’t have benchmarks for online trading yet, the battery will easily outlast your trading day.

    Specs:

    #3 xiaomi mi 9

If you’re a beginner in stock trading and want to go for a low-cost but powerful smartphone that can easily handle mobile trading, then the xiaomi mi 9 is just right for you. It comes at below half the price of the models described above.

Xiaomi Mi 9 comes in third place in our rankings of best phones for financial trading in 2019
    Display

The xiaomi mi 9 has a respectable 6.39 inch super AMOLED display that only slightly smaller than that of the iphone xs max. The resolution of the screen is 1080 x 2340 pixels and delivers a pixel density of around 403 ppi. While this is the weakest display in our comparison, it’s still good enough for charting your favourite stock.

    Speed

The device comes with a powerful snapdragon 855 chipset and 8 GB of RAM, which ensures the smooth running of most apps. Mobile trading platforms are not very power-demanding apps, which makes this combination of processing power and RAM up to the task.

The internal memory of the xiaomi mi 9 is up to 128 GB, depending on the model you choose.

    Battery

The xiaomi mi 9 is equipped with a li-po 3300 mah battery that is capable to return 12 hours of web browsing and 17 hours of video playback. These numbers are more than enough to give you a full day of battery life, even if you’re a heavy day trader.

    Specs:

fast snapdragon 855 processor and 8 GB of RAM 3300 mah battery 6.39-inch display, slightly smaller than the 6.5 inches of the iphone xs max

    Final words

If you’re looking for the ultimate smartphone for stock trading, look no further than the all-new 2019 samsung note 10+. The device features an amazing 6.8-inch AMOLED display and the S pen makes charting incredibly easy.

The octa-core processor, up to 512 GB of internal storage and 12 GB of RAM means that speed and memory will never be an issue. Plus, its excellent battery life ensures that you can open, manage and close trades and follow the financial markets without giving your charger a second thought.

Best cell phone trade-in options for iphones and android phones

Looking to get the best value for your old phone? Here are your best options.

While a new cheaper iphone SE and galaxy A51 have joined top-notch models such as the iphone 12 and samsung galaxy S20 FE , the temptation is still strong to pay big bucks for the latest device. Getting a new phone often means you need to ditch the old one, and with a global pandemic squeezing pocketbooks, there's a rising demand to get your money's worth out of a mobile trade-in. That's where the CNET 2020 directory of gadget trade-in providers comes in. We'll look at a few of the best phone trade in options like itsworthmore and others where you can get top dollar for your devices.

To evaluate the merchants on our list, we looked at a composite picture of each business. We ranked merchants based on our research into better business bureau ratings, CNET staff reviews, online reputation among resellers and how easy or hard it is to get in touch with someone at each business, among other factors.

Every service is different, though, and trade-in values change by the day. They also assign values based on the condition of the cell phone you're trading in, and take into account things like the device's color. This means that preowned phones in good condition are likely worth more money or store credit.

So you're going to have to shop around. Below our list of merchants is our basic FAQ of carriers, buyers and online marketplaces for your best phone trade in experience.

    Amazon

    • Smartphones: yes

    • Tablets: yes

    • Laptops: yes

    • Ipods: yes

    • Action cameras: yes

    • Wearables: yes

    • Other: kindles, books, video, more

Not surprisingly for the king of online commerce, amazon offers trade-in pricing for a large number of items, including phones and tablets, as well as books and videos. Because amazon also has its own marketplace, you can also choose to list pretty much anything and expect to have a chance to sell it through amazon.

We focused specifically on the amazon trade-in offering only. If you're not a regular amazon customer, you might be disappointed to find that amazon only pays in amazon gift cards. For those of us who are dedicated prime users, that's pretty much the same as cash, but you need to decide.

There's long been a rumor that prime customers get better trade-in prices than non-prime customers, but when we asked amazon, we were told that everyone was treated equally.

In terms of the mechanics of the trade-in, amazon will send you a prepaid shipping label you can print out. Pack the device yourself in your own packaging (like an old amazon box) and send it back. You should clear your phone of data, but amazon will also do that for you. Make sure you don't dawdle when shipping your item. The quote time is valid only for seven days, and you should get paid in about 10 business days.

    Apple

Apple offers two ways to trade in your iphones and ipads. You can either walk into an apple store or use an online service run by apple partner phobio.

Either way, don't expect to trade in your iphone and get money you can use to go out and buy that hot new google pixel 4 phone. Apple's trade-in services only give you apple gift cards. If you're staying in the apple ecosystem, this might work for you. If you're jumping ship or just need the money, you'll need to look to another alternative.

I liked the convenience of a walk-in trade-in, assuming you're near an apple store. If you go the online route, quote time is valid only for 14 days, and you should get paid quite quickly, with the company promising two business days in most cases.

Like amazon, going with apple is a bit of a no-brainer, but only if you're OK with its limits: ipads and iphones only, exchanged for apple gift cards only.

    Gadgetgone

    Smartphone trader, smartphone trader.

If you want to sell your iphone (and only your iphone) to a company with a fun tag line, gadgetgone is for you. The site has "goodbye iphone. Hello moola" plastered on the front page, just in case you didn't understand what it does. It claims to take items other than iphones, but its online estimator only works for iphones. You have to email to find out what else it's interested in.

The company pays by check and paypal, but also will pay you using a "printable echeck." while printable checks are a pretty standard practice for some businesses, you probably should ask your bank whether they'll accept a check printed out on your inkjet.

I like the company's "two days to payment" policy, but gadgetgone stumbles on its lack of security practices and price offer guarantees. It also provides no clear method for phone support, and offers almost no background on the company itself on its website.

    Igotoffer

    Smartphone trader, smartphone trader.

If you dig deep in its menu system, you will find samsung and google phones listed for trade-in at igotoffer, but this is mostly an apple-branded trade-in shop. Not only does it make offers on apple phones, but also on mac pros, apple displays and apple tvs.

That said, igotoffer doesn't let you know how long its offer quote is good for, and it doesn't specify whether it provides a security wipe on your data (you should do it anyway). There also appears to be no telephone support.

If you do want to trade in your iphone, the company will email you a prepaid shipping label you can print out. That's workable, but I prefer the full shipping kit with a box designed to protect your device. Igotoffer says it pays within three business days by check, paypal or amazon gift card.

    It'sworthmore

    Smartphone trader, smartphone trader.

Most of what it'sworthmore accepts are apple products, but the company also lists android devices and some other laptops and tablets.

The company provides a 14-day offer quote guarantee and a prepaid shipping label, and it pledges to pay within three business days. It also provides phone support.

It'sworthmore pays by check and paypal, but here's a kicker. If you ask for payment via paypal, the company deducts 3% to cover its paypal fees. It's a little too nickel-and-dime for our tastes and makes us wonder whether it'll be generous in its final payment determinations, or if it will be just a little too cheap. If you use this service, let us know how it did from quote to final payment in the comments below.

    Nextworth

    • Smartphones: yes

    • Tablets: yes

    • Laptops: yes

    • Ipods: yes

    • Action cameras: yes

    • Wearables: yes

    • Portable audio: yes

We like that nextworth takes in a wide variety of trade-in categories, including action cameras and wearables. It will even accept some portable audio devices.

The company does not send a shipping kit, but will let you download a prepaid shipping label you can print out. It also offers a security wipe and phone support.

Payment is available via either check or paypal. Nextworth honors a generous 30-day offer quote time period. Payment ranges from 5 to 12 days, and the company does offer a limited number of walk-in locations in the US where you can make your sale.

    Yourenew

    Smartphone trader, smartphone trader.

Yourenew has a pretty sophisticated search option, which allows you to type in a make and model of something you want to trade in, and see if there's something there. While "play" didn't result in any playstation trade-in options, "kindle" brought up kindle trade-in options, and "mini" brought up mac mini trade-in options.

Yourenew will send a prepaid shipping label to US-based sellers only, and pays by check. While the company didn't specify how long its quotes are valid for or how long it will take to get paid, yourenew does accept bulk trade-in offers for those with many devices to clear out of inventory.

We were also happy to see that the company does offer a security wipe and a support phone number.

    Decluttr

If you want to get money for your clutter, deculttr is the place to bring your stuff. They take in many different smartphone models, some tablets, some kindle models, game consoles and games, dvds, cds, blu-rays and lego products (hey, don't knock the lego. That stuff has a pretty high resale value, especially with full sets).

Although they don't provide a shipping kit, we liked how they suggested filling a box (they say any box will do) with up to 200 items and send it into decluttr.Com. It's a great way to clear out a pile of gear and get some money back.

We don't like that the company doesn't clearly specify how long their price quotes are good for, and that it doesn't explicitly state that it wipes your technology on receipt. Instead, they have some FAQ entries about how you can do that yourself.

That said, the company does offer solid phone support and a great way to check the value of products before shipping, and free insurance on items you ship to them.

    What about gazelle?

Gazelle has lived on this list for a long time, but after refining our review criteria, we've removed it. The change comes in light of an increased number of poor customer reviews and recent complaints to the BBB. We will continue to update this list over time.

FAQ: carriers, buyers and online marketplaces

When looking for value from your old phone, there are four types of organizations you can work with: retailers, buyers, marketplaces and carriers. The characteristics of each are quite different:

Retailers: these are the brick-and-mortar stores in your neighborhood, ranging from walmart and target all the way to the remaining radio shack locations. In many cases, you can walk into the retailer, hand over your old apple, google or android phone and walk out with a new one, with a healthy discount applied. Many of these retailers won't just give you money for your old phone. They want the deal for your new business and give you a trade-in offer, so keep that in mind. Some also offer online trade-ins.

Carriers: these are the cellular service providers and almost all of them have some sort of mobile phone trade-in program, to encourage you to trade up to the next model and keep their service. Good news: this doesn't necessarily mean that the phone needs to be in working condition.

Buyers: these folks want your phones and will give you money or credit for them. A buyer generally won't force you to buy a new device from them (although expect some deal sweeteners if you go that way). Some of them will send you packaging to send your device back to them. This is the group we look at in this guide because they generally send you real money in return for your device, which means you're free to buy anything you want once you get your green.

Marketplaces: this option includes the classic resell methods like craigslist and ebay, along with some specialty referral marketplaces like glyde, swappa and flipsy, which are built around the idea of trading in gadgets. Here, you're often dealing directly with individual buyers (or bulk buyers who are scooping up phones for other markets). Straight talk, though: there is substantially more risk when selling to individuals than companies with known reputations.

Keep those concepts in mind as you look for the best deal for your device.

Virgin media launches smartphone trade-in programme

Virgin media hopes to encourage customers to save money on new phones

    Smartphone trader, smartphone trader.

Virgin media has become the latest operator to offer customers the opportunity to trade-in their existing smartphone in exchange for money off a brand-new handset.

The company has tried to make the process as simple as possible. Any subscriber to a ‘freestyle’ tariff that separates handset and airtime costs and apply for an upgrade, provided they agree to sign a new 24-month or 36-month contract.

Once the device has been valued and a trade-in agreed, virgin media sends the customer a new phone of their choice and a pre-paid envelope to send their old one back.

    Virgin media trade-in

Customers are free to upgrade again at any time, but should the value of the trade-in not cover the cost of the new phone, they will have to pay an additional fee.

Alternatively, virgin media users can simply get cashback for their old handset rather than enter into a new agreement.

“we want our customers to enjoy a flexible service that truly works for them,” said annie brooks, executive director of product at virgin media. “we’ve been offering flexible airtime for many years, ensuring our mobile plans keep up with our customers’ ever changing needs, and now with our new trade up and trade in offering, our customers have even more freedom to pick a new device whenever they desire – regardless of how long is left on their contract.”

Trade-in programmes are increasingly common because of the high cost of new handsets coupled with a reduced incentive to upgrade. By offering money against a new smartphone, virgin media encourages new handset sales and reduces churn by tying in users into a new contract.

“virgin media recognise that customers want more flexibility, together we’ll be bringing customers even more choice with a hassle-free way to turn their old device into cashback or an early upgrade to a great new phone,” added gerry O’keefe, VP at brightstar, virgin media’s partner for the scheme.

The best smartphone of 2021: 15 top mobile phones tested and ranked

The best phone right now is the samsung galaxy S21 ultra

    The best smartphone of 2021

Are you looking for a new phone? Our best smartphone list is here to show you the top 15 devices you can buy right now. If you already have your mobile OS allegiance set, you may want to check out either our ranking of the best android phones or best iphones.

If what's on offer in our best smartphone list is a little too pricey for your taste, then don't fear, as we've also got a list of the best cheap smartphones available right now.

2021 is here, and we expect to see big changes to this best smartphones list throughout the year with new handsets including the oneplus 9, iphone 13 and even choices like the oppo find X3 pro and sony xperia 1 III set for the next 12 months.

But, what about right now? We've just seen our biggest change in this list for months, with the brand new samsung galaxy S21 ultra taking the top spot in our rankings.

We know that it's not all about the high-cost, super spec phones all the time though so we've made you a handy list of all the top smartphones that you can get on the market right now, assessing what really matters to you.

2020 saw an almost complete overhaul of this list with brand new devices entering the top 15 including the samsung galaxy S20, oneplus 8 pro, iphone SE and, most recently, the iphone 12, iphone 12 mini, iphone 12 pro, iphone 12 pro max and oneplus 8T.

We test these phones rigorously through our review process, making sure that we check every angle and feature - but most importantly, considering whether they've got a decent battery, great screen, strong design and a cracking camera.

Then, perhaps most importantly, we consider the price too. Not everyone can afford (or even wants) a supercar-like handset in their pocket at all times, so we've ensured to give you a full ranking.

    Best phone at a glance:

    1. Samsung galaxy S21 ultra

A top tier smartphone, and it takes our best crown

    Specifications

    Reasons to buy

    Reasons to avoid

The samsung galaxy S21 ultra is our best smartphone in the world right now, and we think it's a fantastic choice for you with one of the best cameras, phenomenal power, great battery life, a solid design and a whole host of other great features.

The galaxy S21 ultra isn't a cheap handset, the price is high for this one, but if you're looking for the ultimate smartphone experience in 2021 you will be hard pressed to do better than this latest from samsung.

Screen: the samsung galaxy S21 ultra features a top 6.8-inch screen with a 120hz adaptive refresh rate and a quad HD resolution. This is one of the best smartphone displays on the market.

Battery life: the samsung S21 ultra's battery life is solid, and we found it'd often see us through a whole day from a full charge. If you're playing around with the 120hz refresh rate, battery life is likely to be lesser but it's a top choice if you're after a long lasting phone.

Note the samsung galaxy S21 ultra doesn't come with a charger in the box though, so you'll have to use your existing one or buy one separately.

Camera: samsung's 108MP camera on the galaxy S21 ultra is going to be the highlight for many, and the camera doesn't disappoint on this phone. Like its predecessor, you can take 100x zoom photography, but it's far improved here over the galaxy S20 ultra with two cameras working to do the heavy lifting.

Mini verdict: the samsung galaxy S21 ultra won't be for everyone with its high price, but it's the ultimate smartphone you can buy right now taking our crown for the best smartphone money can buy. Be sure to read our full review before making your final decision, but if you're after one of the best overall smartphone experiences we believe you'll find it here with samsung's latest.
